Revision

Sorta doing something a bit different today, mainly cause I haven't quite managed to find a proper topic.

I believe I've mention it before, but Gareth James Marklew Thesis on the work of the Carey family on the border probably one of the best Carey-centric academic work readily available (even though its probably the only one right away I still think it's a very interesting read on our topic)
Since it concentrate on the much later period overall, I think I forgot to check in my previous topic, but overall I think I should have done proper in the past. Hum let's see if it give us a few information about how previous topic.

Page 35 on the PDF, page 31 if you use the numbering down on the page, gives us a few more info on Henry assets.

page 36, 32. Give us what I thought I remembered, but couldn't quite found back in my article about his time in Mary parliament, which was that (Sadly citing a book, I can only see in snippet view) that he was the one presenting the bill that tied back the church of england and the catholic one (I really wonder how it went down considering just rather stormy the crowd and Henry relationship were at the time) though his mention about the privy council does very and be found on british history online (source). Regretably he don't pop-up anywhere else during mary reign to explain what exactly they wanted with him. Then again Henry seem to consistantly be type who don't show up to appointment. Sorta funny how his absence of parliament could be just as much political than him having wanting the holiday off. Apparently his opposition his possibily about trying to block law that seize the exiled protestant property. I can't help but think of the fact that his sister was actually one of those exiled by Queen Mary ascension.

Also a small error from mine, but it seem that the mention of Henry support of Elizabeth come from the Worties of England, a 17th century book (I recall seeing, but I sorta forgot about it since then, probably need a check). The thing is that its apparently source not from Carey himself, but his son George (hence why it is so imprecise, you can find it at page 37, 33). While it don't give us much more details about the dealing at this particular time, its nicer to know than to not know.

The inheritance.

The inheritance.
If we take it as the year he became major, 1547 would have been the year Henry Carey got in full control of the inheritance has his father, mother and grand-parent were dead (as well has his aunt and uncle). Though his mother had given some of the property to his stepfather, namely  the manor of Abinger and houses in Essex (weir, Mary Boleyn mistress of king page 250). Just four days prior her death she had came into control of the family estate of Rochford hall. I did find one reference to this estate getting in control on Henry Carey, only to sell it later, however I'm not sure I can vouch for the authenticity of this (Feet of Fines for Essex may shed some light of it, but it doesn't seem readily available online, at least not the volume I need). If it is to believe he eventually gave away that estate in favor of those west of London to Richard Rich (well that's one more wikipedia worthy name I can add)

though the bulk of it went to Henry with it being spread around Buckinghamshire, Essex, Hampshire and Wiltshire (source). Mind you as he we go along in the period between 1547 and the crowning he would lose some of these property as time went by. Heck despsite some of the jobs he had with crown our fella seem to be a little strap for liquidity in the coming years (he seem to be constantly selling properly and never acquiring new ones). Another Boleyn property Swavesey would be sold by him in 1549.  Even if it is his "home" seat, Henry will sell property in Buckhingham later in the 1550's. He also seem to been in some legal issue over an estate against some Pakington.

Sorry if it don't seem very structurate here, but I wasn't really able to find a concise list of Henry Carey real estate or what was given to him in any fashion.

Buckingham MP

Buckingham, MP

I was personally rather surprise that one of the first job Henry Carey was as a MP of the borough of Buckingham. It seemed to me it was such a young age, considering that he was 21. Then again this is the 16th century were the parliament was a considerably different institution than it is now. For those who are not familiar back in the day election were essentially decided by who was land owner and even there it was only land owner who  own at least 40 shilling worth of rent. A situation, Henry found himself  due to his inheritance, although it was much more spread out than simply out buckhimghamshire.

Unspiringly however the website on the history of parliment was probably one of the most informative thing I've ever found onto our research subject, heck  it gives more about his life than most website.

Buckingham was a place of little importance at the time (its tax payer list were about 111 people a mere twenty years before Carey first time as MP, just to show you how small the electorate was).
Henry was part of the first parliment of Edward VI constitued in august of that year, but only gathered in November, luckily enough it is covered in the journal of the house of commons, though I have yet to find any particular reference to Henry Carey in the journal. When Mary tudor took over, he was actually changed from his position, but would later rejoin sometime later. Henry will actually have more than one job during this time and actually seem to be somewhat more active during his second mandate as MP several years later)

(apparently the national archive have archives on royal ward, but they are out of reach for me, I'M particulary curious about the bit about Carey being fine for marrying without royal consent, something I haven't quite heard of yet or seen anywhere else, probably because no one check that source out for that before hand, it does make me wonder about the circumstance of his marriage with Anne Morgan considering he was under royal authority at the time, maybe it wasn't arrange, but at the same time its rather speculative of my part)
