Fleet
prison
Did you
know Henry Carey actually was sent to prison at some point? Mind you don't
imagine him as a harden criminal this is is essentially cause he was in debt
over under three obligations
of 1551 for a debt of £507. He was sent sent to fleet prison in London who
was essentially all about jailling debtor. The welcoming line of this particular prison being Pray remember ye poor debtors.
History of parliament article on Henry Carey
tell you he was release by may 19 for a debt contracted in 1551, though it
don't give you much details as to when
he was actually jailled. A bit more
research on the website gave me this guy who seem to be related to
this as his debt was share between him and several other people. It seem
that he was put in prison in august 1557, meaning he might have been there for
about a year.
That would mean he spent almost a
year in prison, though what I find particular is that apparently he apparently
had since we can somewhat track him through the years he apparently was a
carver of the privy chamber. If you wonder what it is. He apparently was a
carver of the privy chamber up until Elizabeth accession. If you wonder what
exactly what that entrail, that mean Henry Carey that mean he had to serve the
king on bended knee during the meal (I'm pretty sure caver is meant to be a
meat carver). While it may seem to like a demining job, I'm pretty sure that it
would be considered somewhat prestigious
since you are doing it for the king (remember he is doing other thing at the
time), but I'm pretty sure that he preferred when he had something else to do.
